About

Joseph Snyder was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in the Fairmount section of the city.  The nearby Philadelphia Museum of Art became his inspiration for becoming an artist.  His daily childhood trips to the museum served as a creative playground where he spent hours discovering different styles of artwork and exploring the beautiful grounds.  It was during these trips, he found special places to call his own and awoke an  appreciation of nature as a subject to paint.

Joe's interest in landscape painting continued to grow as he discovered the work of Robert Wood as a teenager and by his young adult years, was accepted into the Philadelphia College of Art to begin his formal training.  He was exposed to many excellent fellow painters and professors such as Al Keiser, Eugene Baguskus, Gerald Herdman, Harold Gold, Paul Rorer and deeply admired the work of Sidney Goodman, all of whom influenced his artistic journey.

Since then, he has been interested in many artists, such as E. Hopper, M. Chase, T. Eakins,  W. Hommer, W. Trost Richards, W. Turner and The Hudson River School.   The work from these artists continues to give him insight to pursue his art.  He also draws inspiration for his seascape collections from family vacations and weekend getaways to his favorite beach towns in Cape Cod, MA the Jersey Shore and the Outerbanks, NC.

He enjoys engaging in many different forms of art from non-representational to representational and even surrealism.  He is currently creating artwork that is interesting in thought and aims to offer his audience variety, this why you will see the subject matter change from time to time.

Joe now resides in Bucks County, PA with his high school sweetheart, Debi and is recently retired.  He enjoys spending time with his three daughters and his grandchildren.  His life long dream is to one day own a sailboat and spend his days traveling along the Eastern coast, painting.
